Gospel by Geoff Thompson

I burrowed this form Geoff Thompson his book Watch My Back, has just came into movie called Clubbed. Part of my goal for 2009 is to Embrace my Fears and this below is right up there with "living"!!!

Gospel

When you smoke your cigarettes – even if you think they don’t see – you are teaching the kids to smoke cigarettes.

Do not doubt me on this. It is fact. And your lesson is an assault; it is an abuse on young bodies, malleable minds.

You can sit all night long reading bedtime-health-law from tome or bible or tablet but it will not compensate because your gospel is what you do and not what you say. Words without action will simply bounce off the windscreen of young consciousness.

It is how you live that counts.

When you deal in deception – even if you think the kids don’t see you deal in deception – when you fiddle your taxes, when you buy your bent gear (when you steal, in other words) when you lie (even when you white lie) and when you fail to tell the truth (which is simply another way of dealing in lies) you teach your kids the art of deception.

Do not doubt me on this. It is fact. And your lesson is disabling, it is a virus on the hard drive of soft young minds.

You can evangelise until the second coming about honesty and integrity and about doing the right thing, you can quote from holy scroll and preach from church pulpit but your words will be vaporised by the acid of wrong action because your gospel is what you do and not what you say.

Words without action are impotent, the masturbation of the masses that practice not what they preach.
It is how you live that counts.

When you are violent – even if you think the kids do not see you dealing in violence – you are schooling the kids in the art of violence.

Do not doubt me on this. It is fact. And your tutorial is an abomination, a savage, slashing impression left in the psyche of young minds. Violence is a demon intent that employs thoughts, looks, words as well as deeds as its weapons of war. And you can wank off all day long, condemning the school bully, the street hoody and the government warmongers and the wrongs they inflict upon the world but none of it will even reach young minds, and none of it will instruct because your gospel is always, always, always what you do and never (never, never) what you say. Because words without action are like wheels without traction.

It is how you live that counts.

Teaching children is easy enough in principle, but very hard to place into action. If you want them to live a clean life, live a clean and splendid life yourself. Everything else is the folly of foolish and ignorant denial.

As Saint Francis said, we should all preach the gospel, and if we really need to, we should use words.

So why not preach an amazing gospel, why not live clean, be honest, eschew violent ways and achieve your own very best potential by living the dream you dare to tell them they can live. That way you need not even open your mouth to prophesise, because one solitary inspirational action will speak louder that a library of good advice.

Be well.
Geoff Thompson.
