The Month that was....April = Madness!!

April is now GONE until 2011 & where are we in terms of goals?

I'm on track with some and others I haven't even scratched the surface! So here we are again, a short snap shot at the month that was....... APRIL = MADNESS!!

Now, I can say "madness" in a positive light however when caught up in the madness it's often hard to comprehend & make sense of!!!

Moving to EastSide Barbell Club which has been a great move like any move creates a bit of strain on the "transition" of sorting details out etc & tidying up where I was, adding to the mix a new baby, school holidays for my 7yr old plus a much busier house (3kids) takes some time to "sort" and "manage" sometimes successfully and sometimes NOT very successfully :-)

Such is life & now that we have come out the other end, I wouldn't have it any other way.....mostly :-)

So what did I achieve in the month of April?

I have a goal of a book a month and I started this goal in March where I read Cardio Strength Training by Robert Dos Remdios.

In April I read Linchpin by Seth Godin.... This is a fantastic read for someone who is looking to "break free" of the machine mentality of "another day another dollar"!

I love how he addresses Resistance or Fear and in what forms it rears it's ugly head and how we "make it ok"!! I'm a big fan of Seth Godin's work, his book Tribes was the 1st ever audio book I bought!!!

I didn't train the first 1/2 of April with school holidays and moving gyms, however I found my stride or picked up my rhythm in the last 2wks of April and managed to achieve 8 strength sessions & 5 BJJ training sessions. Actually from the 19th to 30th I didn't miss any scheduled training sessions.

I missed 5 days out of 30 for Meditation which is alot for me in a 4wk period, I normally miss 5 days of Meditation in a 6wk period! However, the big picture is I still did it 6/7 days per week!!!!

People often ask, how I find the time to Mediate for 60mins at a time...... The benefits out weigh the not doing it, sure sometimes it's "not ideal" HOW I Meditate BUT I'm making the most with what I've got!! Basically, it gives me too much NOT to do it!!

So that's a snip it of April, May promises to be more "stable" but still challenging in a way that is progression......

Here's what I am striving to achieve this month:
  1. Yoga 2-3x per week 8-12sessions
  2. BJJ 2x p/w = 8
  3. Strength 2x p/w = 8sessions
  4. Get 5 Referrals for EHP
  5. Have my mum here from Aussie for 2wks
  6. Create 3-5 Gifts/Koha for EHP Tribe members
  7. Take my lovely lady out for the night, she deserves it!
  8. Get EHPFitness.com up (I may have to explore other people to do this or get very F$#@!$ alpha cause I'm over being patient!!!!)
  9. Continue to Fail Forward by pushing boundaries of my perceived limits......
  10. Continue to support our family through TIME & LOVE!
What will you do this month? It doesn't need to be a list, it could be as simple but as big as making a phone call to say to someone you are sorry???

What ever it is, I hope you GET IT DONE, regardless of your reasons you can't!

Thanks for reading,

Spida
P.S. In month of May I'm giving away a week's training for FREE, all you have to do is have the balls to email me (spidaehp (at) gmail.com) to book it in......

Monday or Wednesday at 5:30-6:20pm!!

Will you choose to try something different to achieve your goals of fat loss & fitness or will you remain "scared" of the What if?

5 Simple Ways to Make Goals Stick in 2010

I was asked a Question on Facebook about, Motivational Tips to get "started" on achieving goals.... I would like to deepen the answer I gave on FB and provide some helpful tips for you in the daily grind of life to ensure you stay "on track"!

The Tips below I'm going to tell you if I have "lived" them or if they are purely just "intellectual" learning, there's a massive gap between the 2 and it's important I think that you understand which place I'm coming from!

Motivational Tips to Achieve Goals or Just GET STARTED

  1. Be Coached:
This has to be the biggest "secret" their is in life....Yes you can sort it out yourself, I often do (right or wrong) however in order to jump the long process we must be coached.

Real life Learning; Just this morning I rung a coach about a "issue" I was experiencing in life. Within 3mins I had seen "clarity" on it and realized how to change it i.e. the real proof will be in time to test my new found Life I.Q... However, the point is, I was too involved to see the simplicity of the situation and my coach saw it in 3mins!! That's priceless!!

  2. Write Down Your Goal:
Don't be fooled by the nature of how simply this is, I also believe writing in pen/pencil on a peice of paper is MORE powerful then typing to a computer....Don't ask me if this is "science" based because I have NO idea, it's what I prefer!

  3. Set a Date:
After your Goal, set a date you would like to achieve it by e.g. 5kg in 8wks = Start Monday Jan 10th, Finish Sunday March 13th. Once you have this written in calendar you can plan your social life around it..... I'm currently doing this on my yearly calendar with my own goals!

  4. Refer to your written Goal:
We all often need a "motivation" boost and this is what reading your goal does everyday, it reinforces the outcome you want. Don't get caught up in Why you can't do _________, that just reinforces the outcome of NOT getting what you want!

Ask questions like; How can I achieve my goal of __________ and leave it at that, it may come to you straight away it may come to you next month the strength is in asking "HOW can I"!!
  5. Performance vs Outcome?
A Outcome Goal is lose 5kg in 8wks which is an important part of the process, however to help with the actual "doing" of the goal, I think adding in some Performance Goals into the big picture to make it more mangable goes along way to achieving it.

Performance Goal = I'm prepared to commit to train 4x per week, therefore 4 x 8(weeks) = 32 training sessions.

Work on "ticking" off these 32sessions as part of your performance goal, this is a great way to "measure the daily/weekly/monthly effort" so at the end of 8wks you can see what worked or what didn't i.e. if it was your training programme or the discipline of Showing Up!
There is alot more to the puzzle of Goal Setting or Motivation, however it all starts with DOING and this is where I START!!

Another big part of the puzzle is Commitment & Discipline to follow through.....with out these all of the above is just, "nice to know"!

Have fun with this, don't take it too seriously and remember to Fail Moving Forward :-)

P.S. One of the best programmes I've used for Goal Achievement is Dax Moy's Magic 100 programme, it pushes your threshold & he holds you accountable through daily emails!!

We have DONE IT! Christchurch SBS Marathon....

We have completed our bucket list of completing a Marathon! Let me tell you, IT WAS HARD!!!
It's post 4days of the marathon and I'm still "feeling" it in my body and my MIND!!

MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS to;
  • Duane Peterson (you did it hard brother running on your own but you did it bro, you are the man!)
  • Vanessa Hunter (my sister who came all the way from Melbourne to do her first ever marathon, what a legend! And NO, I don't owe you we are even for you getting me to do the 1/2 marathon 3yrs ago! haha)
  • Tracey Tauwhare (4months post giving birth to our beautiful little daughter Maaia, isn't she an inspiration.....me thinks so too :-)
  • Scott Tindall (Scot, you are truly kicking some serious ass this year, from Feb 09 to now in body, mind, spirit transformation, keep it up brother!)
  • Joel Simmonds (The first one home out of us, I've written about Joel and how he has over come injuries to complete his first marathon! Inspirational!)
  • Sarah Peterson (Sarah's goal was to run 10km and SHE DID IT, great stuff Sarah and we have you on record for saying you will do a half next year :-)
  • Nick Keen (Did his first EVER half marathon under 2hrs! He said, he hit the wall with 2km to go, but obviously still broke 2hrs!! You the man brother! This is all while still lifting tin 2x p/w too i.e. Dead lift from 40kg to 100kg in 8wks!!)
You are a inspiration to me and I have no doubt to others reading this!

Although people may think we are "mad", I can assure you we are not, we are just a human as the next person but decided to make ourselves a bit unique and entering a club of less then 1% of the population who have done a marathon!

Lastly, what would we be without Whanau (family and friends), f### all!

So thank you all so much who came from up north (the Beckham whanau-Tutu, Petrina, Jae, KT! Linley and Noms and of course my mum too who came from Melbourne to support us! You all did a marvelous job of spreading yourselves out over the course to cheer us on and give us sugar hits along the way!!

To everyone else who gave internet support or just showed your face along the journey someway some how, thank you very much!!

Anyway, rather then blabble on let's watch the video to see the energy at the start and the energy at the end!

1 yr old TODAY!!

EHP Fitness Studio is 1yr old TODAY....

Today the 14/4/2009 is 1yr old for EHP studio, man what a journey to date.

"YOU NEVER WORK AS HARD AS YOU DO WHEN YOU WORK FOR YOURSELF"!!

I think off the top of my head NZ is 80% small businesses, and over 1/2 of them fail in the first 3yrs!! I've been self employed for the last 4yrs as a fitness professional (in the industry for 10+ years) and my dream of having my own studio came a reality 365days ago! Real cool ahe!

Like I said a few weeks ago, every day
is a LESSON that sometimes I welcome and sometimes I resist with passion and conviction that keeps me up at night!!

So where to next for EHP Studio? I will continue to progress and DOMINATE the local market, actually I'm prepared to say that NO PERSONAL TRAINER/Gym/Studio in Christchurch could out beat the results we can produce here for REAL fat loss, fitness, MMA, Strength, toning, success in life!

People may perceive my statements to be co.cky but it's the belief
I get stronger every day and I suggest you adopt a belief that's similar to get what you want out of your fitness, fat loss, well being, life success goals!!

Lastly, I would like to thank EVERYONE who has supported me in this cool journey, most of you probably don't realize how much of an impact some of you have had. So to everyone, thank you so much!! I won't name people because I may miss some out and that would make me feel like the stink guy!

What's your bucket list?

How would you like to "tick" something off your Bucket List in 2009 and be part of an exclusive group of 1st timers?

This bucket list is for 1st time virgins only (exceptions can be made for those that are willing to share their experiences with us ''first timers')! Oh by the way, that's half or full marathon-er virgins!

If you have never done a half or full marathon before and would like to tick it off your Bucket List before you kick the bucket then read on..... if you have never thought about doing a marathon but interested to learn about the journey of 1st time "marathon virgins" then read on.....

First let's get the issue of "What is a Bucket List" out of the way!?

The term Bucket List comes from the movie with Jack Nicholson and Morgon Freeman, about 2 old men who find out they are going to die from cancer. They come from 2 different backgrounds i.e. Morgon Freeman is very "wealthy" in the family sense and Jack Nicholson is very "wealthy" in the monetary sense.

Basically, these 2 make a list of things they want to "tick off" before they "Kick the Bucket" and use each other to spur them on to achieve what they have always wanted, but never done!

This is the the theme behind you reading this web page and deciding if you want to "tick off" or "cross off" a half or full marathon from your list before you "kick the bucket"!
