MacDonalds & Weight Watchers are Best Mates!

MacDonald's and Weight Watchers has "teamed Up" to provide the consumer a meal that will only give them 6.5 points according to weight watchers points scheme! Read Article from NZ Hereald here

I don't blame either party, I mean they are a business & they are looking for ways to grow that business! HOWEVER, this is planting of the seed to give the perception that MacDonald's are "healthy" and the kids today will believe that in 10yrs time......

I'm not "anti" MacDonald's, I believe the consumer needs to take responsibility for there eating behaviours, however to those that don't know, this also gives them the excuse to dine and wine at MacDonald's.....

Let's face it, how often do you go to MacDonald's to get a "light meal"???

There are many examples like WW & Mac's teaming up....

E.g. I'm not Anti All Blacks but a parent/kid who doesn't know any better would believe that Powerade is the drink to "scientifically" improve performance when simple H20 would do the trick before they are dehydrated.....

Oh, the All Black Marketing team have that one covered as well and SELL us bottled water when 99% of the nation can drink water straight out of the tap!!!

At the end of the day, it comes back to YOU the consumer to add more "filters" to what you believe & perceive to be real and straight out crap!

That starts by questioning things you perceive to be true, just like a 2 yr old asks WHY 24/7 :-)

Until you question "status quo" you will fall victim to what ever comes your way i.e. that will be inches around the waist in FAT & behaviors that support it with ignorance to justify it!!

So while I don't approve of this planting of the seed, I have always believed in raising your Health & Fitness I.Q & this is why.......

Vitamin D supplementation reduces insulin resistance?

Vitamin D supplementation reduces insulin resistance in South Asian women living in New Zealand who are insulin resistant and vitamin D deficient - a randomised, placebo-controlled trial.

von Hurst PR, Stonehouse W, Coad J.

Institute of Food, Nutrition and Human Health, Massey University, Private Bag 102 904, North Shore Mail Centre, Auckland, New Zealand.

After I found this study, I wanted to talk with Pam Von Hurst who did it to get more "details" about the study and what she found!

It's one thing to find a "science" finding but it's another thing to "get it"..... While I don't AGREE with everything she says about health/nutrition there is NO argument that Vitamin D deficiency is something that NEEDS to be addressed!!

Down Load and listen to the conversation with Pam Von Hurst!

The 3 Rules of Fat Loss my presentation at Weight Watchers

I've been speaking at Weight Watcher meetings the last 3wks on the Topic of;

The 3 Rules of Fat Loss & How to "DO" them!

Here's a brief run of what I have been talking about. Enjoy these tips and if you have any questions please fire away by leaving a comment below or don't be shy to spread the word around either on twitter, facebook or any way you know how.

The Importance of Synergy!!
  1. Concern for Muscle
  2. Concern for Cardiovascular System
  3. Concern for Nutrition

The 3 Rules of Fat Loss & How to DO them:

1) Nutrition: I "preach" to them that they pay for the advice of Weight Watchers, so why not follow it, after all if you are into wasting money why not give it to me!!

It doesn't matter what "diet" you follow, the point is you follow it 90% of the time, other wise you don't know if it worked because YOU changed the "diet"!
Side Note: I'm not a real believer in Weight Watchers "diet" however I am a believer in 90% compliance with WHAT EVER YOU FOLLOW!!

HOW to do it:
  • Be compliant to WW guidelines
  • 6 meals per day
  • Be weary of the products in a box, as most a high in sugar!

2) Cardio for fat loss: People are conditioned to think 60mins a day of walking or jogging will give them the fat loss results they desire and to a point this is correct, however you must ask yourself if you have done this with NO RESULTS, is there a better way?
Or if you do this with limited results for the effort you put in, is there a better way?

Metabolic ESD (Energy System Development) or Interval training as it's commonly known as, is ULTIMATE for fat loss, it's not to say aerobic running/jogging/walking is NOT beneficial, however if you are to choose the BEST modality of cardio then Metabolic ESD is the cream of the crop for fat loss!
(Side note: by working in a metabolic ESD way, you inhearantly increase your aerobic capacity as well!!! That's 2 stones with one bird people!!)

How to DO ESD:
  • Power Walk/Jog/Run/Sprint for 30sec then go easy for 90sec i.e. 30sec fast (fast means, an inability to communicate) then go slow to moderate for 90sec x 8sets.
  • Yes you can do it on bikes/treadmills/cross trainers, it's the protocol of 30/90sec that's important!
3) Building Muscle
Muscle is the best return on investment we have "naturally" today, for e.g. did you know that doing weights in a metabolic fashion can enable you to burn calories for up to 36hrs POST training!!

That's like 360% return on investment!!!

It's impossible for woman to look like a female version of "she hulk" (naturally). Men produce testostrone which helps build muscle and females build estrogen which has less to do with building muscle!

So the Myth of, "If I do weights I will get big" is really nothing more then your imagination holding onto "freaks" on the internet! You may feel big but that is different to BEING big!

General rule of thumb;
Majority of men need to do more metabolic ESD as they like lifting the tin for 'numbers' on the bench press, and majority of females need to do more lifting the tin i.e. build more muscle, as they do too much cardio which can waste muscle if done too much!

How to Build Muscle:
  • Do all the exercises below in a Metabolic Circuit i.e. Do 1 then straight away do 2, 3, 4 then rest 90sec and repeat the process 3x
  • 3sets x 10-15reps, 90sec rest between sets.
  1. Bodyweight Squat

  2. Push ups
    and when the baby gets older from all the push ups they can do these ;-)

  3. Bodyweight Lunges

Tricep DipsI have NOT included abs in this metabolic circuit because these exercises will help develop them because they require you to stabilize in order to perform them!

There are hundreds of variations to make all this happen, if you have a willing mind you WILL find a way to make it happen!

The bigger the movement the more calories are burnt i.e. it's harder to do a squat then it is to do a bicep curl. You require more muscles to do a squat therefore you get more "bang for your buck" in calories burnt!

If you are to follow this programme you will want to do the Metabolic Circuit first which will take you about 15mins and then the Metabolic ESD 2nd which is about 20mins.

Yes that's right, a total time of 35mins and you can do this 3x per week i.e. Mon/Wed/Fri.

Now if you can't find 35mins 3x per week then you aren't ready to achieve your goals.

Any questions just fire my way and if you would like to share it feel free to do so by using the link below.

What it takes to lose Body Fat Now...

Here is a question I received that I thought I would share with everyone! After most people "think" questions but don't ask! Hope this helps with your fat loss journey of being shredded to the max :-)

Hey Bro

I bet you get it all the time BUT one thing for me is without being vain I think im in good shape, always have been. Ive done some crazy training but never even when competing had 6 pack abs, then I have mates who have em naturally.

Im a big believer in you gotta work with what you got, some people have it natural some don't, yes you can develop skill but if you have some of it naturally its gonna come a lot easier.

From what you know, what are the best ways to get shredded, as in get rid of overall body fat ?

cheers mate

Ice
My response to his question;

Good question Isaac;

To keep it simple, you are both correct with some people have it "naturally" therefore don't have to 'work' as hard as someone who doesn't have it naturally.

HOWEVER;

When we are talking about getting shredded to bits, we must look at NUTRITION & RESISTANCE Training combined (although, I would put nutrition ahead but we are keeping it simple). Most people will say, "I've done everything and still NO abs, what the %$#@?!"

It is my belief that 97% of people don't look at nutrition GOOD enough in order to get the shredded look they desire because let's face it, getting shredded to bits takes a lot of DISCIPLINE andCOMMITMENT which most people don't have.

Here's where to start for the body fat to blow torch off your body;

  1. Eat every 2.5 to 3.5hrs upon waking
  2. Eat protein with EVERY meal
  3. Eat veggies with EVERY meal
  4. Eat starchy carbs i.e. potatoes/rice/bread/pasta ONLY AFTER you have trained
  5. Drink 2-3ltrs of H20 per day (NO fizzy drinks!)
  6. Do this 90% of the time in a 7day week i.e. if you have 6meals per day x 7days per week, that's 42meals per week.

    90% of that is 38 feeding opportunities that NEED to align with #1-6. Once you have this sorted for 3wks we can look at portion control or other ways to continue to shred! If the above does not match 90% behavior then people don't have the right to pi$$ and moan about being FAT!
Does that make sense?
There you have it, the "truth" behind how to lose fat, NO FLUFF here I may have the PC police at my inbox tomorrow but that is okay with me :-)
If you have any comments about this then let me know, my PASSION in life is to teach/coach people to get what they want. I love that side of my occupation!

This pic below is from Mike Roussell after I sent the response I found his graph which illustrates perfectly what I'm talking about! Mike has got it going on when it comes to Nutrition people, after all that is his living!!!!
